Darkhive is making robotics accessible. We are a startup focused on the application of robotics to the public safety and defense community. Our approach to accessibility is built on three pillars: low-cost, ease-of-use, and open interface design to enable extensibility by third parties.

Darkhive is creating an autonomy software stack that will enable military and public safety users to intuitively interact with robotics platforms to understand their common environment and make decisions when it matters most. In addition to our core software suite, Darkhive is creating a palm-sized, autonomous drone optimized to demonstrate the capabilities of our software stack. The integrated software and hardware solution are key to realizing the product's full potential in our target markets.

The Role:

Darkhive is building disposable sUAS platforms. This requires a unique blend of design and engineering to produce a product our customers love to use. You will work with the Director of Hardware to create and refine platform requirements and designs, multi-tasking across a range of products to meet requirements and production needs. The role will also require being hands on to conduct materials, mechanism, and process research and testing to ensure our products are of quality while maintaining a competitive price point.

You must be comfortable with rapid product development cycles (3-6 months) and have experience with manufacturing of medium-to-high quantities (consumer electronics experience is a plus).

If you want to ensure the "right" system is developed for next-level sUAS autonomy, come help us build a vision of making robots safe, easy, and affordable while performing real tasks for their human counterparts.

Please note this position will require being hands-on with hardware regularly and requires being close to Darkhive facilities in San Antonio.

You bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in hardware design of electromechanical systems
  • Experience with 3D modeling software and design (SolidWorks is our primary)
  • Integration with electrical system components including circuit boards and cable harnesses
  • Comfortable using tools such as FEA for assessing strength, fatigue, thermal, and frequency response of structures
  • Experience in manufacturing of products in medium-to-high quantities.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test
  • Detailed part and assembly drawings using GD&T
  • Confidence and experience to move quickly and make informed decisions
  • BS in Aerospace, mechanical, physics, or related field
  • Example projects you can point to demonstrate the above skills

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with gimbal systems, UAVs, or robotics, or consumer electronics
  • Experience with drone systems and flight control, particularly on small uncrewed aerial systems
  • An active security clearance (this is not a requirement for the position)

Process:

  • Phone Screen (30 minutes) - Get to know more about the company and tell us about your experience.
  • Design Takehome / Project Review at your own pace. No trick questions.
  • Hire / No Hire - Based on video conference review of solution with opportunity to ask questions and meet the team.
  • Attractive stock options plan as an early hire
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits options
  • Unlimited Paid Vacation
